Some developers decided to get community input about a proposed new development on Maui very early in the planning process. They held a “Talk Story” series of workshops over the course of a week in November 2005. They had an architectural design team working throughout the week to develop concepts and adapt them to suggested changes and stated needs. I attended the final presentation and made a mind map to capture what I heard and saw. Planning and development are very controversial on Maui, with many strong and conflicting drives and values. I was encouraged to see this proactive approach and the creative solutions offered.
